Every once in a while, a song will capture my heart, in this season the song that stirs my spirit is the National anthem. Everytime I hear it, i’m reminded of all those who sacrifice their lives for my freedom.
A few week ago we had military week. It was amazing! Our guest were either from the military, military famillies or people that have a heart to pray for them. All of the sudden it was not about a man or a women on tv or in a newspaper. They were real, sharing their hearts, their lives and their struggles but most of all their passion for the calling.
It made me realize how easy it is to take them for granted, I often took my freedom for granted. It was a real shift for me. God gave me his heart for the soldiers and I decided to not only pray for them but to also bless them.
That week I went to the airport to pick up some of our guest and while I was waiting, I saw a veteran in a wheel chair. He was handing out poppies in exchange for a donation. I went up to him and thanked him for his service. He was so happy. He told me that it was the first time that a civilian thanked him. He handed me a poppie and when I told him that I had no money on me, he told me that being acknowledge was worth a lot more that money! Wow that really touched me. He started to share with me about life after war, I offered to pray for him and he was very happy to receive prayer. I was grateful for the opportunity to bless him.Today I took it a step further, I stopped 2 men in uniforms to let them know that their service was appreciated. They were surprised, but they had a big smile on their faces. That was fun!
We often sing…God keep our land glorious and free ( Very nice prayer! ) Then… O Canada we stand on guard for thee! Now wait a minute! How our we doing that? Can I really say that I’m standing on guard for Canada? Our soldiers sure can, Our leaders sure can!
And now I can, because my journey at Nhop, made me realized that one way that I can do that, is to pray not only for my country, but for those who sacrifice their life for the good of my country, like the military and the leaders of my country.
I invite you to join me in prayer for our military…let’s remember them every day and not just on REMEMBERANCE DAY! If you need prayer points go on the website of
Military Christian Fellowship www.mcf-canada.ca
Lord I thank you for the military, I pray that you may bless them for their sacrifices.
